Dear sisters and brothers in Christ,
I write to notify you that I have given consent to the ordination of the Rev. Canon Mary D. Glasspool as Bishop Suffragan of the Diocese of Los Angeles. While I do not communicate with you about each episcopal consent process, I realize that this one may have particular import to some of you, and that the result of this process, whichever it is, will doubtless have bearing on relationships within both The Episcopal Church and the Anglican Communion.
The reasons for my consenting to this ordination are these: the election process was canonically uncompromised; Canon Glasspool is exceptionally qualified for this ministry and faithful to the doctrine, discipline, and worship of The Episcopal Church; the General Convention of The Episcopal Church has repeatedly, and again recently, determined that the ministries of this church are open to all qualified persons regardless of race, color, ethnic origin, sex, marital status, sexual orientation, or disability.

Join us for an exciting Ohio Day weekend at Washington National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. on April 25! Two free buses will be leaving from Perrysburg, and stopping in Brecksville and Boardman starting at 10:00 and arriving in Washington at about 6:30 p.m, Friday evening. The weekend will include mission projects, Sunday morning Eucharist with well-known evangelist Brian McLaren preaching, and a meeting with broadcast journalist and Episcopalian Judy Woodruff of PBS and CNN on Saturday morning. There will be plenty of free time for sightseeing, as well. The Cathedral designates certain days of the year to honor a particular state, its people, and heritage.

Several churches have expressed interest in yard signs using the same design as the billboards. Since we can get a considerable discount for multiple copies of a sign with the same message, we're offering a 16" by 26" coated poster board with wire frame. The signs will say, "Love God, Love your neighbor, Change the world. . . The Episcopal Church Welcomes You." The colors, like the billboards, will be white text on a blue background. The signs last from 3 to 6 months. Please call Kristin Crites (216-774-0462 or email her at

Watch for our billboards, which will change locations in March. Coming up are two in Akron--one on West Market at Maple Street and one on Wooster, east of 24th Street. In Cleveland, the new boards will be on the Berea Freeway near the airport, on Carnegie Avenue, east of E. 71st Street, and on Lakewood Heights Blvd, east of W. 136th Street.
Two billboards will also be in new locations in Toledo in March. They are on Reynolds Road, north of Airport, and Secor at Corydon. On Route 30 between Mansfield and Wooster, a billboard will be placed west of Fry Road. A new billboard will also be placed in the Youngstown area, but the location has yet to be decided.
Let the Office of Communications (216-774-0456 or

) know what you think of the billboards and if you have any ideas for future locations with a lot of traffic. No interstates or electronic boards, please; they're too expensive.

A single Diocesan Confirmation service will be held Saturday, April 17, at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Cathedral this year. Although in previous years regional confirmations have been held across the diocese during Easter season, limited participation has made it impractical. At its heart, the service is a diocesan celebration. Having the service at a single venue and having that venue be the Cathedral are two ways by which we embody the diocesan relationship of the participants and all who come together that day.
Please contact Eva Cole (216.774.0457 or
