NEW! OHIO: Look up -- there's a sign from God
In this case, four of them — 23-foot by 10-foot, eco-friendly blue and white billboards strategically positioned in high-traffic areas in Cleveland, Akron and Toledo that convey the good news of the Episcopal Church: "Welcome, regardless." "God loves you — no exceptions." "Love God. Love your neighbor. Change the world." "If you're looking for a sign from God, here it is." And, beneath each message, a familiar tagline: "The Episcopal Church Welcomes You," along with the Episcopal shield and the diocesan website. Part of a new advertising campaign by the diocese, the four billboards went up at the beginning of February. In little more than a month's time, they've ignited enthusiasm and "sparked requests for matching yard signs for churches, not only from around the diocese but also a few requests from churches outside the diocese," said Martha Wright, diocesan director of communications. Message from Bishop Hollingsworth, March 1, 2010Dear sisters and brothers in Christ, I write to notify you that I have given consent to the ordination of the Rev. Canon Mary D. Glasspool as Bishop Suffragan of the Diocese of Los Angeles. While I do not communicate with you about each episcopal consent process, I realize that this one may have particular import to some of you, and that the result of this process, whichever it is, will doubtless have bearing on relationships within both The Episcopal Church and the Anglican Communion. The reasons for my consenting to this ordination are these: the election process was canonically uncompromised; Canon Glasspool is exceptionally qualified for this ministry and faithful to the doctrine, discipline, and worship of The Episcopal Church; the General Convention of The Episcopal Church has repeatedly, and again recently, determined that the ministries of this church are open to all qualified persons regardless of race, color, ethnic origin, sex, marital status, sexual orientation, or disability. Billboards Move to New Locations
Two billboards will also be in new locations in Toledo in March. They are on Reynolds Road, north of Airport, and Secor at Corydon. On Route 30 between Mansfield and Wooster, a billboard will be placed west of Fry Road. A new billboard will also be placed in the Youngstown area, but the location has yet to be decided. Let the Office of Communications (216-774-0456 or mwright@dohio.org ) know what you think of the billboards and if you have any ideas for future locations with a lot of traffic. No interstates or electronic boards, please; they're too expensive. |
Diocesan Confirmation Service at Trinity CathedralA single Diocesan Confirmation service will be held Saturday, April 17, at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Cathedral this year. Although in previous years regional confirmations have been held across the diocese during Easter season, limited participation has made it impractical. At its heart, the service is a diocesan celebration. Having the service at a single venue and having that venue be the Cathedral are two ways by which we embody the diocesan relationship of the participants and all who come together that day. Please contact Eva Cole (216.774.0457 or ecole@dohio.org) by March 26 if anyone from your parish will be presented for Confirmation, Reception, or Reaffirmation at this service, and let her know the total number of participants Read More... |

NEW! Lenten Reflections from ERD: Thursday, March 11, 2010Lenten Reflections from ERD: March 11
It comes from John 14:27.
Different translations explain the peace of Christ in
different ways. For example: “…the peace I give is a gift
the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid”
(The New Living Translation). Or: “…I give you my own
peace. People of the world also say, ‘Peace’ to you. I do
not say it as they say it. Do not let anything trouble
your hearts. Do not fear” (The Worldwide English).
Both versions make it clear that Jesus’ peace is different. I keep trying to equate His peace with peace in
general. I extend to you the peace of Christ, but it only
means I don’t hate you.
I must surrender my fear or I’ll never get it.
The peace of Christ be always with you. |
NEW! Lenten Reflections from ERD: Wednesday, March 10, 2010Lenten Reflections from ERD: March 10 Be thou my vision, O Lord of my heart; all else be nought to me, save that thou art– —attributed to Dallan Forgaill, 8th century; from Hymn 488, the Hymnal 1982
I’m guessing there are as many visions of God as
there are people. We like to imagine this vision as the
all-important motivating force in our lives, but the fact
is we spend much more energy on earning a living,
putting food on the table, educating our children. |
