Mission Office

The Office of Mission is designed to be a resource for mission and ministry for our diocese. We invite our parishes and mission areas to collaborate on projects so that we may be more effective workers in the vineyard. Our office will work with your parish, your mission area, and other groups within the Diocese of Ohio discern and establish mission work. Please contact our office for more information. We will be glad to visit your parish, meet with your vestry, your outreach committee, and other groups to help you do the work of Christ, whether its in your neighborhood or farther afield.

The Episcopal Community Services exists as a faith-centered organization, which works to bring restoration, healing and liberation to the needy.

The Mission:

  • To promote a reconciling Episcopal witness that encourages justice through service, compassion, and liberation; empowering both those being served and those who serve.
  • To serve those in critical need through Episcopal parish programming, parishioners, and collaborative community services.
  • To encourage liberation to those in need through education and through advocating for change in systems that create need.
  • To adhere to our theological mandate to “do justice, love mercy and walk humbly with God.” Micah 6:8

2014 Grants Available for Youth

Grant applications are now being accepted for Youth Mission Trips and Children & Youth Summer Programs. The deadline for each is May 27.

Youth Mission Trip Grants - 2014

Consider applying for a youth mission trip grant. If your parish collaborates with another to send youth ages 13-19 years on a mission trip to provide human or social services, this could be a wonderful way to help offset the cost for the trip. In many cases, an optimum model for funding is approximately 1/3 participant, 1/3 parish, and 1/3 diocese.

Criteria:
  • Youth must have a connection to an Episcopal congregation
  • There needs to be a collaboration of at least two Episcopal congregations
  • The purpose of the trip must be to provide human or social services
  • Youth should be ages 13-19 years
  • 100% of the grant must be used to facilitate the mission trip
  • The application deadline is May 27
  • Send photos / video of your trip including names of people pictured (send to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. )

Children & Youth Summer Program Grants - 2014

If you need assistance with children & youth summer programs, grants are available! The Bishop's Annual Appeal promotes outreach programs driven by youth and young people and outreach programs that enhance the lives of youth and young people. In other words, its all about youth and young people! VBS, Reading Camps and similar programs are great youth outreach events that need funding.

Guidelines:
  • Children/youth-driven programs must have a connection to an Episcopal congregation
  • There should be a publicized invitation to the local community
  • The program or activity needs to have a Christian focus (not solely for fellowship)
  • The program or activity needs to build relationships with those in the local community
  • The program needs to advance the mission of the parish
  • The maximum grant award is $500
  • The application deadline is May 27
  • Send photos / video of your program including names of people pictured (send to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. )

Diocesan Mission Inventory

In 2010, the Commission for Global and Domestic Mission conducted a survey of all the parishes to see what types of mission work each was engaged in. The results are available with the hope that parishes may work with others to discover new mission opportunities and partnerships.
