Toward GC80: General Convention meal plan canceled in response to feedback

Presiding Bishop Michael Curry sent the following letter to all Episcopal Church bishops earlier today:

June 15, 2022

Dear fellow bishops,

Last week, you received word that the Presiding Officers’ General Convention Design Group approved a meal plan for bishops and deputies that would include a required hotel breakfast and boxed lunch program. Since then, President of the House of Deputies Gay Clark Jennings and I have received input that the meal plan would be too expensive, involve too much food and packaging waste, and would not meet dietary needs. I want to thank you for your honest and helpful suggestions. Based on that feedback, I am writing to inform you that we have decided not to move forward with this meal plan at General Convention.

Everyone attending General Convention is invited to make meal choices at local establishments as they choose.

Thank you for your forbearance as we continue to finalize details for this most unusual General Convention. We are grateful for those who are making plans behind the scenes for their willingness to try new options, to change course based on feedback, and to continue working with good cheer as our time in Baltimore grows nearer. May God grant us all patience and good humor in the coming weeks.

Faithfully,

The Most Rev. Michael Curry
Presiding Bishop and Primate
