February 10 from 1:00pm - 3:00pm
On Saturday, February 10 at 1:00 p.m. at Our Saviour, Akron, the President, Officers and Members of the Wilma Ruth Combs Northeast Chapter of the Union of Black Episcopalians, together with the Diocese of Ohio and Church Of Our Saviour, Akron will host the annual Festival Eucharist celebrating the Rev. Absalom Jones and the Rt. Rev Barbara Clementine Harris. The Feast Day for the Rev. Absalom Jones is February 13th and the life and ministry of the Rt. Rev. Barbara Clementine Harris is commemorated on February 11th, which is the anniversary of her consecration. The Rev. Absalom Jones was the first Black priest ordained in The Episcopal Church and the Rt. Rev. Barbara Clementine Harris, Bishop Suffragan in the Diocese of Massachusetts, was the first woman consecrated bishop in the Anglican communion and first African-American woman bishop in The Episcopal Church. The Rt. Rev. Anne B. Jolly will be the celebrant at the service, and the Rev. Robin Woodberry, Priest-in-Charge at St Paul's, Canton, will replace the Rev. Edwin Daniel Johnson, Director of Organizing at the Episcopal City Mission in Boston, Massachusetts, who unfortunately broke his ankle and will be unable to join us at this year's celebration. This service will be a joyful celebration of these saints whose lives and ministries inspire us as we continue our work of reconciliation and dismantling racism to move closer to becoming Beloved Community. All are welcomed. Refreshments will be served immediately following the service. Clergy are invited to process in cassock surplices and white stoles.
