Registration for this event has ended
A Lay Preacher proclaims the Word of God in ways that inspire people to follow Christ, brings them into relationship with God, and strengthens their relationship with God. Per the church Canons, a lay preacher must be a communicant in good standing with the supervision of a member of the clergy.
Our annual training to become a licensed Lay Preacher will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, May 10 through 4:00 p.m on Saturday, May 11 at Bellwether Farm. The Rev. Mike Floyd, Ms. Melanie Wahlgren, and the Rev. Seth Wymer will be the facilitators.
Currently licensed lay preachers can register for Saturday only (9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.) to fulfill their continuing education requirements. As a reminder, licensed lay preachers are required annual continuing education to retain their licensure.
Once we receive your registration and approval from your rector, priest-in-charge, or senior warden, we will send you confirmation of your registration as well as specific agenda items and pre-assignments.
Attendance Friday and Saturday is required to obtain licensure. The cost for a single room is $175, and a double room (two people) is $145 per person. Each price includes three farm-to-table meals, snacks, materials, and teaching fees. We strongly encourage parishes to offset the cost of this licensing for their parishioners, which is already heavily subsidized by the Diocesan budget. (If you are selecting a double occupancy room, please communicate with your roommate to request each other– we will not match random roommates.)
Any questions can be directed to the Rev. Anna Sutterisch, Canon for Formation.
The application deadline is April 25.
