Registration for this event has ended
Our annual Introduction to Lay Preaching in the Diocese of Ohio 2-day Course will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, May 30 through 4:00 p.m on Saturday, May 31 at Bellwether Farm.
A Lay Preacher proclaims the Word of God in ways that inspire people to follow Christ, brings them into relationship with God, and strengthens their relationship with God. Per the church Canons, a lay preacher must be a communicant in good standing with the supervision of a member of the clergy.
Those considering becoming a lay preacher are required to first get approval and a letter of recommendation from their rector, priest-in-charge, or senior warden. Please send the letter to the Canon for Leadership Development Mr. Russ Tripi.
Once we receive your approval, please proceed to register for the overnight event. Attendance Friday and Saturday is required to obtain licensure. The cost for a single room is $175, and a double room (two people) is $145 per person. Each price includes three farm-to-table meals, snacks, materials, and teaching fees. We strongly encourage parishes to offset the cost of this licensing for their parishioners, which is already heavily subsidized by the Diocesan budget. (If you are selecting a double occupancy room, please communicate with your roommate to request each other– we will not match random roommates.) Scholarships are available should this cost be prohibitive. Deadline to register is May 13.
We are exploring the possibility of offering childcare for this event. If you are interested, please contact Canon Russ Tripi by May 9. A further cost may be incurred.
Contact Lay Preacher College Coordinators Mike Floyd (christchurchreverend@buckeye-express.com) or Seth Wymer (Frseth@gracesandusky.org) with content-related questions or Sara Schimelpfenig for administrative assistance.
