Seventy-nine clergy gathered for the annual Clergy Conference in Geneva on May 16. This year, a major focus of the week was introducing the College for Congregational Development. The College is a comprehensive training program that seeks to nurture and develop congregational development practitioners from within existing parish lay and clergy leadership.
The Rev. Ivar Hillesland and the Rev. Liz Tichenor, trainers from the college, led clergy in discussions and group activities regarding some of the tools, models, and methodologies that the College uses.
The College is built to help equip clergy and lay leaders with the knowledge, skills, and practices needed to develop their congregations into healthier, effective, and sustainable communities which are grounded in a robust identity that is rooted in Anglican ethos and spirituality.
The training is a two-week program that consists of readings, presentations, experiential exercises, application activities, and at-home projects. The College is open to clergy and lay leaders, and teams from congregations are encouraged to attend together. One of the hopes is that parishes will experience an increased energy to engage the challenges and opportunities before them with new tools to make progress in these areas.
Bishop Coadjutor Anne B. Jolly said, “For me, it’s more than just a two-week program. It’s a chance to create and train groups and consultants to work with congregations so that as a diocese we can be healthy, faithful, and effective manifestations of the ‘Jesus Movement’ in our local context.”
The hope is to launch the College within our diocese in the summer of 2024, with every congregation encouraged to consider attending. More information coming soon.
