General Convention Overview

The 81st General Convention will take place June 23 – 28 in Louisville, Kentucky. 

The General Convention is the governing body of The Episcopal Church. Every three years it meets as a bicameral legislature that includes the House of Deputies and the House of Bishops, composed of deputies and bishops from each diocese.

At the 206th Diocesan Convention, the deputies for Ohio were elected. 

The deputies are:

  • The Rev. Bridget Coffey - St. Andrew’s, Toledo
  • The Rev. George Baum - St. Timothy’s, Massillon
  • The Rev. Vincent Black - Ascension, Lakewood
  • The Rev. Debra Q. Bennett - Our Saviour Akron 
  • Dianne Audrick Smith - St. Andrew’s Cleveland
  • Eva Warren - Harcourt Parish, Gambier
  • William Powel - St. Paul’s Cleveland Heights (Chair)
  • Jenna Bing - St. Hubert’s, Kirtland

At the 207th Diocesan Convention, the alternate deputies for Ohio were elected. 

The alternate deputies are:

  • The Rev. Leah Romanelli DeJesus - St. Luke’s, Cleveland
  • The Very Rev.  BJ Owens - Trinity Cathedral
  • The Rev. Jeff Baker - Diocese of Ohio
  • The Rev. June Hardy Dorsey - St. Andrew’s, Elyria
  • Ruth Mercer - Christ Church, Shaker Heights
  • Richard Pryor - Christ Church, Kent
  • Demetrius Carruthers - St. Paul’s, Canton
  • Dale Murphy - Trinity Cathedral
