St. Paul’s Episcopal Church’s unofficial history goes back as far at the 1820s as local Episcopalians tried numerous times to form a permanent congregation before St. Paul’s took root.
Jan Cassler attended her first worship service at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in a bundle of blankets.
The “cradle” member is a stalwart of a congregation that has been an integral part of the city for 150 years.
The church, founded in 1869, will celebrate the milestone by hosting a homecoming picnic June 23 following its 10:30 a.m. worship service.
“I feel very loyal to the church,” Cassler said. “I’ve been here my whole life. It’s home to me. It’s the only place I want to be.”
Cassler’s father, Harry Klingstedt, came to Canton from his native Jamestown, N.Y., in 1918 to assist her uncle Veno. They formed the Klingstedt Brothers Co., a printing business still in operation. Cassler’s son and grandson operate the business today.
