Longtime Oberlin pastor's last Mass is Sunday

[From The Chronicle]

The Rev. Brian Wilbert of Christ Episcopal Church will lead his last Mass as the parish’s pastor at 10:30 a.m. Sunday.

Wilbert announced his departure from the church to his parishioners in mid-May. He will become an interim pastor for other parishes within the Episcopal Diocese of Ohio.

“Now it is time for new beginnings and new directions for both the priest and the parish,” he said.

Barbara Pierce, as member of the parish for more than 50 years, said she and the other parishioners are dealing with his departure like ripping out a wisdom tooth: It’s good for growth, but they know it will hurt.

“It’s really tough, but we know as he does that we’re part of a larger church and God has all kinds of wonderful things for us and this is the best choice for him,” she said.

Pierce said Wilbert will be remembered for his open engagement and connection with the parish. She said he’s also known for pushing the community to become better people and make sure they live a life that doesn’t harm others.
