Dear Ones,
At Diocesan Convention, I shared news that we recently contracted with Episcopal Camps and Conference Centers (ECCC) to do an in-depth audit of Bellwether Farm. I write today to share some updates on the life and ministry of this tremendous diocesan asset. In addition to giving some suggestions on how to move forward, the report says that Bellwether has much to celebrate - a first-class camp and conference center with a unique mission, ministry, and purpose; passionate people who believe in the ministry; steady growth with returning clientele; and strong diocesan support. They believe Bellwether Farm has the potential to be considered one of the premier camp and conference centers in The Episcopal Church, and we agree!
One of the recommendations the ECCC audit gave us is to create a Board of Advisors. This small group of leaders will partner with the staff to offer support and structure to continue to build programming and policies that are focused on the mission, vision, and direction of the organization. We are in the initial stages of working to establish this board and will be sharing more information soon.
In my time as bishop, Isaac Hollingsworth, Bellwether’s Director of Operations, and I have talked extensively about the health and growth of the organization. In our most recent conversation, Isaac identified the need for executive leadership of the farm, particularly at this stage in its development. I agree this is a vital step to help Bellwether reach its full potential. We will seek an interim executive director to begin this work. I am grateful to Isaac for his leadership and willingness to continue as Director of Operations through the transition period. In addition to the day-to-day tasks of keeping a facility of its size running, Isaac has significantly increased the number of events held at Bellwether Farm. He has seen us through staff transitions and even the devastating loss – and rebuild - of the animal barn. This has been challenging and difficult work, and we are grateful for all he has done and accomplished. Look for more information on how we will celebrate Isaac’s ministry.
Please join me in offering gratitude to Isaac and the staff of Bellwether Farm for their ministry and service throughout these pivotal years. It is because of their dedication that we are able to be a model for sustainable living and a premier camp and conference center. We are excited to see where the Spirit leads us as we continue to live into our mission and vision.
God’s Peace,
+Anne
