Two groups in Northeast Ohio are making it their mission to bring people together to consider tough and sometimes divisive topics and find some way to relate to each other through dialogue.
In Canton, a group called Courageous Conversations on Race Relations has put together a monthly program that meets at St. Paul's Episcopal Church to teach people about white privilege, implicit bias, anti-racism, redlining and urban renewal. In Cleveland's Near West Side, a group called Collective Thoughts meets twice a month at Harbor and Bridge, inviting people to reflect on and respond to issues including housing, policing, politics, and gentrification, to name a few.
On "Sound of Ideas" on Tuesday, representatives from both groups will share why they are doing this work, and what they've seen come from it in their communities.
Guests:
- Molly Weisel, Leader, CCORR; Member, St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Canton
- Pastor Eric Howard, Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church; Leader, CCORR
- Pastor Matt Whisenhunt, Director, Harbor and Bridge; Founder, Collective Thoughts
- Gabrielle Fowlkes, Senior Project Manager, Urban League of Greater Cleveland
