August 2024 Resources

Dear friends in Christ,

Last month, I shared with you a summary of resolutions passed at the 81st General Convention of the Episcopal Church in June relating to the reduction of gun violence.

Here are some more resolutions that relate to our common life both within the church and across the globe, especially to the promotion of peace and justice.

The Episcopal Public Policy Network has an overview of “over 50 resolutions that have direct implications for the church’s public policy advocacy to the United States Government”. These resolutions can be divided among five ministry and policy areas: Creation Care; Ending Poverty; Migration, Refugees, and Immigration; Human Rights and Peacebuilding; and Racial Reconciliation. Find the overview and dig into the resolutions here.

The Episcopal Church Office for Racial Reconciliation further highlights those resolutions that “demonstrate the church’s persistent commitment to resolving racial disparities and building a community based on love and justice.” The resolutions cover topics from reparations to the disparate maternal mortality rate; creation care and environmental justice; liturgy; migration; restorative justice; and many more. Read more about the actions of General Convention relating to racial justice here.

As ever, the business of the Church is love, because God is love. The business of the Church is truth-telling because Jesus is the truth (and the way, and the life). The business of the Church is justice because our God is forever merciful.
