Canon for Operations (COO)

The Canon for Operations is a proven leader in administrative operations. This Canon leads the integration of the diocesan vision in several areas including governance, operations, finance, and human resources, to resource congregations and implement the vision of the Bishop and Diocesan leadership, building a strong connection with the Bishop, staff, clergy, and lay leaders.

Essential Functions:

  • Primary staff member responsible for reimagining resource allocation in the Diocese of Ohio. Collaborate with diocesan and congregational leaders, as well as outside consultants and providers to determine how the diocesan structure can be adjusted to more fully support congregations in the areas of finance, buildings, and administrative support.
  • Lead the effort to create systems and structures within the Diocese of Ohio to guide each congregation to do missional real estate assessments and processes to better utilize the buildings and grounds to meet the needs of the communities they are in. Coordinate with Standing Committee and Chancellor on matters of property litigation/sale/encumbrance.
  • Responsible for working with Trustees to maintain and determine missional use for properties under the care of the Diocese of Ohio. Manage diocesan real estate issues, including property insurance. Serve on Trinity Commons Executive Council.
  • Work closely with the diocesan financial team to creatively determine how to honor our donors and utilize our financial resources to achieve the diocesan vision.
  • Work closely with Treasurer, Chancellor, Diocesan Council, Trustees, Finance Committee, and other diocesan leaders and leadership bodies.
  • Accountability supervisory role for:
    • Interim Chief Financial Officer
    • Interim Controller
    • Missioner for Operations
    • Missioner for HR
    • Our technology vendors.


Minimum Qualifications
:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field.
  • 5+ years' experience in senior management with operations and finance.
  • Proven experience in process improvement/finding creative solutions to complex challenges.
  • Ability to work nights/weekends as needed.
  • Idea generator and connection maker, able to see systems in new ways.
  • Practices direct, honest, and transparent communication.
  • Demonstrates understanding and full support of the mission, vision, values, and beliefs of The Episcopal Diocese of Ohio.
  • knows how to organize people and activities and understands how to separate and combine tasks into efficient workflow.

Physical Requirements:

This position requires the ability to travel independently across the Episcopal Diocese of Ohio. It requires the ability to move freely in and out of different settings, some of which may have limited accessibility. Other physical requirements include the ability to communicate clearly and hear in a variety of settings as well as bending, stooping, lifting, and carrying up to 25 pounds.

The Episcopal Diocese of Ohio offers a generous total compensation package including employer paid at 100% cost of medical insurance plus full funding of an HSA account to meet the annual maximum out of pocket expense, vision, dental, 9% employer contribution to retirement account, 32 days PTO plus 19 paid holidays, and sabbatical and retreat time.
