Diocesan Controller

The Diocesan Controller is a proven performer in all areas of non-profit finance. The Controller is responsible for overseeing all financial operations of the Diocese of Ohio, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and canons of The Episcopal Church, managing financial risks, and providing strategic financial guidance to the Diocese and supporting its parishes. This role involves preparing accurate financial reports, managing budgets and forecasts, working with auditors, and leading a team of finance professionals.

Essential Functions:

  • Manage and oversee all financial operations, including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis. This includes Account Reconciliations, Database Maintenance, Gifts, Parish and Parish Resources, Loan and Grants, and year-end processes.
  • Develop and oversee the annual budgeting process, working closely with program managers, Diocesan Council, and other stakeholders to develop realistic and achievable budgets.
  • Ensure compliance with all financial reporting and regulatory requirements, including tax filings, audits, and other reporting requirements.
  • Assist with annual audits of Diocesan funds.
  • Prepare and present accurate and timely financial statements and reports for stakeholders.
  • Report on the financial performance of the Diocese to Diocesan Council and Trustees, including regular updates on budget performance, forecasts, and financial risks and opportunities.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to the finance team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA or equivalent certification preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in nonprofit accounting or financial management.
  • Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles, including fund accounting.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and financial management systems, FileMaker Pro and database systems, Financial Edge, and Raiser’s Edge

Compensation
This is a full-time position that includes benefits as approved in the current edition of the Employee Policy Handbook of the Diocese of Ohio, including 100% employer-paid health and dental insurance, disability and life insurance, and retirement plan as well as generous PTO and paid Holidays.
