Financial Administrator, Christ Episcopal Church, Oberlin

Christ Episcopal Church, Oberlin, OH, seeks a Financial Administrator to manage all aspects of Parish finances. The Christ Church family is committed to our mission to be a rejoicing, comforting, sharing Christian community that welcomes all who thirst for God.

Job title: Financial Administrator

Status: Part-time (approximately 10 hours per week), flexible hours but monthly and annual deadlines, limited amount of remote work may be available

Salary: Hourly, $28 to $32, depending on training and experience

Reports to: Parish Administrator

Job summary: The Financial Administrator is responsible for all bookkeeping, accounting, reporting, and compliance for every aspect of Parish finances. The Administrator will work with various team members to ensure that the Parish’s financial affairs are well-managed and reflect the mission of the Parish.

Essential functions:

  • Handles the entire accounting cycle, from recording to reporting, including fund accounting and the endowment
  • Analyzes data, monitors cash flow and the budget
  • Functions as payroll and benefits administrator, maintains personnel files
  • Assists with risk management, including reviewing transactions for fraudulent activity, reviewing insurance coverage
  • Coodinates with clergy, staff, Treasurers, Vestry, volunteers, outside CPA
  • Assists with Annual Report, Parochial Report, annual audit, and other reports as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications and skills: 5+ years experience in bookkeeping and accounting. Knowledge of GAAP and fund accounting. Competency using Excel and accounting software (QuickBooks Online or comparable), as well as the ability to create easy-to-understand financial reports and a willingness to learn new systems. Associate or bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field preferred. Experience with non-profits, especially churches, preferred.

The successful candidate will demonstrate organization and attention to detail, problem-solving skills, perseverance, curiosity and creativity, flexibility/adaptability, and a duty of confidentiality.

Work environment: The Parish offices are an open-plan environment, where staff, parishioners, and community members frequently gather for meetings and appointments with the pastor. The ability to maintain confidentiality around sensitive information and situations is essential.
