Sunday School Coordinator - Christ Church, Hudson

Job Title: Sunday School Coordinator

Location: Christ Church Episcopal, 21 Aurora St. Hudson, OH

Position Type: Part-time (10 hours per week)

Reports to the Rector

Who are we?

Christ Church Episcopal is a thriving, transitional-sized congregation (average Sunday attendance of 141) located in the heart of Hudson, Ohio. Founded in 1842, we are a diverse and welcoming community that includes people of all ages, races, sexual orientations, political perspectives, religious backgrounds, and socio-economic experiences.

We are blessed with an energetic and growing community of children and young families and are seeking a Sunday School Coordinator to help nurture the faith, curiosity, and formation of our youngest parishioners.

There are two Sunday services: one at 8:00am, and another at 10:30am with an adult choir and young chorister program. Sunday School currently meets from 10:15-11am. We have two age groups: PreK-2nd and 3rd-5th. This year, we are using Illustrated Ministry's Mini Revolutions curriculum but are flexible.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Children’s Program Development:

• Meet regularly with the Rector and staff to support visioning, planning, and curriculum

development.

2. Teaching and Formation:

• Occasionally co-teach or substitute when volunteers are unavailable.

• Assist rector in planning and facilitating of one week of Vacation Bible School in late

July/early August.

• Assist volunteers in annual children’s activities (i.e. Christmas Pageant, Easter Egg Hunt,

etc…).

Community Building

• Build warm, trusting relationships with children, parents, volunteers, and staff.

• Maintain a visible and supportive presence on Sunday mornings, including checking in

with paid nursery caregivers.

Managing Program

• Coordinate and schedule Sunday School teachers and substitutes.

• Assist in keeping children’s activity area in worship space fresh, clean, and up-to-date.

• Assist in maintaining classroom spaces and keeping inventory of materials as needed.

• Maintains active status with “Safeguarding God’s Children.”

Qualifications:

• A kind nature, energy, a sense of humor, and most importantly, someone who loves kids

and cares deeply about their Christian formation.

• Experience working with children under age 12, including toddlers and preschool-aged

children.

• Familiarity with the Episcopal Church, or a willingness to learn its theology and practice.

• Christ Church is LGBTQ+ affirming and expects all staff to embody its mission of

inclusion.

• Training and experience in Godly Play is especially welcome (but can also be provided).

• Ability to pass a background check and complete both Safe Church and Anti-Racism training.

Physical Requirements:

• Moving items up to 25 pounds.

Hours:

• 10 hours per week

• Sunday hours from 10:00am to 12:30pm are expected.

• One additional in-office workday per week; remaining work may be completed remotely.

Compensation:

$10,000-$15,000/Year, commensurate with experience

PLEASE NOTE: A candidate interested in both youth and children’s ministry may apply for the open Youth Minister position as well, which together constitute a half-time (20 hours/week) position.
