Dear ones who are curious about who God is being for the people and Creation outside your church, and how you could get in on that good and holy action… Dear ones who love (or yearn to know and love) the folks with whom your church life doesn’t intersect (yet)… 

I invite you to join me and others around our diocese this summer for some initial gatherings where we’ll learn from each other’s wisdom and practice a lively openness to the Holy Spirit’s movement wherever we are. 

Sent Out to Meet Christ: Practices for (re)engaging our local neighborhoods/areas for mission

What are some of the principles and concrete practices of Episcopal (and other religious) missional communities outside of and around the U.S.? How can we support each other in trying, and then learning from what happens, when we do these practices in our own contexts? What changes do we see in our spiritual and communal lives when we engage with people and our wider contexts for mission?

How can we humbly, honestly, and authentically build relationships with people whose age, spirituality, culture, ethnicity, or other social distinctions aren’t reflected in our local church membership? How can we take histories of division, power imbalance, coercion, and church hurt into account, without being paralyzed by them? And, how can we honor and seek Christ in people, resisting the temptation to just get their butts in the pew and their pledges in the plate?
